Boeing to acquire the military company Argon

Boeing will buy the combatengineering firm Argon ST for about $775 million according to The Wall StreetJournal. The deal will be made at a moment when the Defense sector is beingrestructured as a result of the decreased expenses of the Pentagon. Boeing getsroughly half of its revenue from government defense, space and securitycontracts. It makes fighter jets, cargo planes and is expected to competeagainst Airbus parent European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. for a $35billion contract to build a new fleet of refueling jets.

Theaviation giant will pay $34.50 per share, 41 percent premium to Argon's closingprice on Tuesday.

Thelast time when Argon's shares were traded at that price was in 2006. Argon'sboard has approved the takeover and plans to recommend it to shareholders. Afterthe acquisition Argon will be a standalone subsidiary of Boeing. The deal isexpected to close in the third quarter.
